Dr Steven Berglas discusses the source of motivation for entrepreneurs on Forbes.com.
Berglass has spent 20 years studying and coaching entrepreneurs, and during that time he has ascertained that they "don't question their motivation; don't wonder whether or not they are taking risks; don't ask themselves, 'Will this work?'" Instead, they simply act in pursuit of a goal with passion and energy.
The advice Berglass offers to those wishing to tap their inner entrepreneur is: What is it about this world that you want to change?
He explains: "I have often found that the push for change lies deep within a person's psyche. Their ox has been gored, and they seek justice or even revenge."
To sustain their motivation, Berglass believes entrepreneurs should find a cause that drives them to do "something really effective" every day.
The author also quotes the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Principle No 7 as guidance for entrepreneurship: "We take risks, make big bets and move with urgency. We are in it for the long haul."
