Managing on purpose

If you want to find and keep the best talent, answer the 'four core questions that every employee wants clarified'.

According to Richard J. Leider of The Inventure Group, the quartet are:

(1) Where are we going?
(2) What are we doing to get there?
(3) What do you want me to do?
(4) What's in it for me when I do?

Before you can answer, you need to clarify your own purpose and vision. After answering the questions for the first time, keep on doing so 'relentlessly', in the knowledge that every change, large or small, starts talented people questioning all over again. 'Invite dialogue with your talent' to find out if you're reaching your aim - to have them working 'on purpose'. Does their current work feel purposeful? And, not at all by the way, does yours?
