Financial management has long since gone far beyond beancounting – though skill and honesty in that department remain basic. What transforms the business, though, is ‘creative accounting’ in the only good sense of the phrase – using financial knowledge and knowhow to enable optimal returns on everything from pension decisions to recruitment and turnrounds.
